How Reiki Found Me: A Journey Through Healing, Awakening, and Returning to Purpose

Some people say they found Reiki.
But in my experience — Reiki found me.
It arrived during a time when my life was falling apart in ways I could no longer hold together. I was navigating a painful divorce, leaving a controlling religious environment, and facing the unimaginable loss of my son. Through it all, I continued running my licensed in-home daycare, caring for children while my own heart was undergoing profound shifts.
In search of direction, I began a year-long journey to become a Law of Attraction Life Coach. I didn’t realize it then, but this was the beginning of my own emotional and spiritual awakening. Layer by layer, I released belief systems that had been handed to me, not chosen. I thought I was preparing for a new career. Instead, I was preparing to meet the truest version of myself.
The Early Signs I Was Being Guided Toward Reiki
Reiki kept showing up in my orbit, but fear and old conditioning made me push it away. I was still healing from religious trauma and didn’t yet understand the difference between intuition and programming.
I turned to hypnotherapy, which became a bridge — softening rigid beliefs and creating enough space for curiosity. Meanwhile, in the daycare, I was watching something unfold that I couldn’t ignore. Autism diagnoses were increasing. Children were dysregulated. Parents were overwhelmed, exhausted, and out of tools. Medications were being prescribed that dulled children’s light but didn’t heal their struggles.
I felt a deep ache:
I don’t know how to help them — not the way they truly need.
Then one day, a childhood friend invited me to a free Reiki class. We had both been raised to believe Reiki was forbidden, even dangerous. But I was desperate for answers, so I said yes.
We walked into the class curious and hopeful.
We walked out attuned to Reiki I.
And we walked away wondering if we had just “sinned.”
That is the power of conditioning — even when the soul feels truth, the mind questions it.
The Awakening: Returning to Reiki Again and Again
A few months passed. Reiki came back around. This time, the fear was softer. I took Reiki I again. Then a third time. Each attunement peeled away another layer of trauma, fear, and inherited belief. I began seeing myself — and the world — through a new lens.
Then I did the unthinkable: I paid for a class I couldn’t afford.
That wasn’t me. Safety and responsibility had always been my armor.
But a soft voice inside whispered:
Keep going. This is yours. You are guided.
So I followed it.
I entered Laser Reiki — six months of deep energetic healing that addressed not just this lifetime, but patterns, ancestry, and imprints I never knew I carried. Reiki became the language my soul understood.
As I expanded my training into Usui, Holy Fire® III, Karuna Holy Fire®, and Medical Reiki, I kept searching for what felt like home. I didn’t find it until I traveled to Idaho for a Kid Reiki class.
That class brought everything full circle — my decades of childcare, my role as a mother and grandmother, my healing journey, my coaching background, and the intuitive guidance that had been leading me here all along.
In retreat after retreat, meditation after meditation, one truth kept rising:
Families need help.
Parents were never allowed to feel.
Children now carry emotions too big for them to hold alone.
Reiki is the bridge.
Why Reiki Matters: Healing Generations Through One Family at a Time
Reiki doesn’t erase a person’s story — it helps them meet it with compassion.
Reiki helps parents by:
-
creating emotional safety within their bodies
-
reducing reactivity and overwhelm
-
releasing stored trauma passed down through generations
-
reconnecting them with intuition and clarity
-
softening the patterns they learned in childhood

Reiki helps children by:
-
calming their sensitive nervous systems
-
helping them name and understand their emotions
-
supporting emotional regulation
-
reducing behavioral overwhelm, tantrums, and shutdown
-
helping their energy feel safe, grounded, and connected
Reiki helps families by:
-
bridging emotional disconnection
-
creating shared healing rituals
-
modeling healthy emotional regulation
-
restoring peace and presence in the home
Reiki gives families something most of us never had growing up —
a way to feel without fear.
Children today are more intuitive, sensitive, and energetically open than past generations. Parents, meanwhile, are carrying unresolved trauma and beliefs that taught them to silence emotions instead of understand them.
This disconnect is exactly where Reiki steps in.
It meets each person where they are and guides them gently back into balance.

Reiki found me because I needed to heal.
It stayed because families need to heal.
And it continues to guide me because I am meant to help bridge this gap with love.

Dear Wendy:
Your story is so compassionate and heartfelt, and your soul has certainly found “HOME”… no wonder you want to work with this modality, it speaks to your higher self
and i hear it loud and clear in your story.
wonderfully written and it has a personal touch that touched and spoke straight to my heart.
well written and understandable. i love the last 3 lines and wondered that if
perhaps one more line that leaves it with your name and gentle goodbye somehow or wish, might add a soft personal touch ( just an idea).
Great story… Did you take Lazer Reiki with Taylor and Roi in Chehalis, WA?
Yes, I took it a few years ago. Level 1-6.
